Donatist Controversy Vol. II

About the book
The Donatists, who broke away from mainstream Catholicism and were a force to be reckoned with in North Africa from the early fourth to the early fifth century, were a preoccupation for Augustine for more than two decades. Their influence was felt not only in theology but also in the political sphere, and Augustine's response to them represents an indispensable part of his enduring legacy. This volume complements Volume I of The Donatist Controversy, which contains Augustine's earlier anti-Donatist writings. It features Augustine's later writings on Donatism--some of them never translated before into English--and includes, among other things, his lengthy and important Answer to Cresconius, the Summary of the Conference with the Donatists, which marks a significant moment in the decline of Donatism, and his rebuke of the fanatical Donatist bishop Gaudentius.
