In August, we reflect on the phrase: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.” (Lk 12:34)
When we change locations, jobs, or circumstances, we sometimes hope that our problems will be left behind. But as Fr. Tyler reminds us in this month’s Word of Life, our hearts—and the burdens they carry—travel with us. Jesus points us to the deeper truth that the most important thing in life is not where we are, what we own, or even what we do, but who we are with.
For Jesus, the greatest treasure was his relationship with the Father—a treasure that brought him freedom and peace, even in the face of abandonment and suffering. This month, we are invited to invest our hearts in that same treasure: our friendship with God. When we do, we discover a freedom that is not tied to our circumstances and a peace that cannot be shaken.
