When someone wrongs us, it can be tempting to hold on to resentment and even wish harm on the other. Fr. Tyler reminds us in this month’s Word of Life that these feelings of vengeance—or even envy when good comes to those we struggle with—only weigh us down.
Jesus points us to a different way: the way of rejoicing. Surrounded by sinners and tax collectors, he invites us to see with the Father’s eyes, not with hearts clouded by anger. In the parable of the lost sheep, Jesus calls us to celebrate, saying, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.”
This month, we are invited to allow God’s grace to transform our vengeance into celebration. When we rejoice in the good that happens to others—even those who have hurt us—we share in the joy of heaven. It is not easy, but with God’s help, our hearts can be changed, freed from bitterness, and opened to a peace that comes from celebrating every step closer to Him—both theirs and ours.
