Joseph Sievers, born in Recklinghausen, Germany, studied in Vienna, Jerusalem, New York, and Rome, and is professor emeritus of Jewish history and literature at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He has been a Focolare member since October 28, 1965.
